Creating An Extraordinary Quality Of Life: The Power Of Focus
Anthony Robbins "Rapid Planning Method" Time of Your Life Program
Remember the last time you lost track of time? What was happening? Chances are you were doing something with intense emotion. Now think about the last time you felt every second slowly tick off the clock. Chances are, whatever you were doing did not provide you with much emotional context. When you spend time on things that give you a good emotional state, you experience a higher quality of life. So what controls your emotional state? It is possible for a bunch of people to be in the exact situation but have different emotional states. Why do some Walmart greeters look happy to be there while others examine the opposite? Why are some teachers in the same school excellent at their jobs and others not? It is because the circumstance does not matter as much as what people focus on. If you focus on what you love, then it changes how you handle any situation. So how you experience time is based on your emotional state, and you can control your emotional state with what you focus on. What happens if you focus entirely on what you want for every area of your life?
Did you hear your phone beep? Did you clear your email inbox? How many items do you have on your honey-do list? Whoa, did you see a funny billboard? There is a constant demand for your focus every second of the day. If you give in to every request for your guide, you can never have a better quality of life. The top demands on your focus you must look out for are your pains and pleasures and other people's needs. We, as human beings, will do almost anything to avoid even the thought of pain.
Similarly, we are happy to be distracted by something that provides immediate pleasure. , Other people in your life will try to make their pressing demands your focus if you let them. If you allow any of these distractions to control your ultimate direction, then your happiness will be at the mercy of external forces instead of your reasons. Your reasons are much more powerful, and you must focus on them.
So how do you control your focus? First, you must get honest about your current position. Most people either inflate their current position to feel better or compound the mistakes because they already feel bad. It's not easy, but you must find a way to see life as it is right now. Secondly, you must allow yourself to dream about the outcome you want. If you have had any setbacks, it's easy to start changing your desired product and tell yourself you don't want it anymore. You don't believe you will get it and are trying to manage your expectations. However, you will never have it if you keep saying you don't want it. No matter how much it may hurt, let yourself want your outcomes. Finally, it's time to make a simple plan to achieve your result. Start with where you are now and work toward your development with steady progression, one step at a time. The secret to controlling your focus is asking yourself better questions. For example, instead of asking yourself, "Why do I suck?" you should try, "What exactly did I do wrong on this attempt?". Instead of saying, "I can't afford that!" try asking yourself, "How can I afford that?" If you ask better questions, your brain will focus on moving you toward the answer.
Think about the most successful self-made person whose story you are familiar with. It could be anybody famous or just someone you know. I can guarantee that no matter who you think of, the answer to the following three questions will be yes if they created their success. On the journey to success, did they know what they wanted? Did they understand why they wanted it, and did they plan and adjust until successful? That is because it is what successful people have in common, and the most fantastic thing is that anyone can do the same process with their outcomes.
The core of Tony Robbins RPM system is asking yourself those three questions; What, why, and how. If you can focus on what you want and why you want it, 20% of your actions will yield 80% of your results. That never-ending to-do list will become a road map to achieving your outcome because you will start taking action in the order of importance to the work. Often you will be able to accomplish the result before you even reach the end of your to-do list. Why does the order in which you do things matter? Try putting the correct numbers of your phone's password in random order. Call your loved one using a different combination of their phone numbers. The sequence of which you complete actions is vitally important to the outcome. Most people who work toward an outcome fail because they do not follow the right line. They took action without defining what they wanted and why. That being said, achieving a result with a clear purpose is possible, but it is emotional juice that fuels your progress.
As an entrepreneur aspiring to be successful, the demands for your time will appear overwhelming. The fact is, your needs may be overwhelming. Unfortunately, all those who don't understand the entrepreneurial journey will not know why you are so frustrated when they ask you to hang out on the weekend. What Tony Robbins is saying with this lesson of focus is that you do not and should not abandon activities that entertain you on the journey to success. It would be best if you did not spend so much time working on your life that you forget to live it. Instead, use focus to spend your time more wisely. You may not have 40 hours a week to work on your business, but ten wholly focused and engaged is more potent than 40 hours of distracted work. Finding work/life balance is made possible by controlling your emotional state. Success without fulfillment is a failure.
Focus is Tony Robbin's RPM system's first lesson, yet it is an extraordinary piece of the puzzle. Most of the time we have wasted is due to our lack of focus or our focus on distraction from our desired outcomes. Most people don't seek ways to change their lives, and fewer still actually apply the information they learn. If you are committed to taking control of your life, start by taking control of your focus.
