Do you ever make mistakes even though you know better? Have you ever gotten mad at someone for mansplaining? While it may be annoying, the better question is; Why are you not doing what you know? Do you know how to lose weight but haven't started yet? Do you know what to do to start your business, but keep putting it off? Here are three tips to turn knowledge into actual results.
3 Tips For Turning Knowledge Into Action
Business Motivation
BE HUMBLE; LISTEN AND CONTRIBUTE
If you want to be successful, you must learn to be humble. You will come across many intelligent and experienced people who want to help you but may tell you something you have heard before. You will often offend them if you cut them off and ask them to tell you something you don't know. Instead of being frustrated, entertain it for a little while. Perhaps they will have something to say that you haven't heard before. Maybe they will say the same thing you have heard before but in a different way that it finally clicks for you. Try asking for feedback on your actions and result, or lack thereof. The chances are high that if someone more successful than you is telling you the information you already know, they have noticed that you are not acting on what you say you do. Put your ego in check and accept the opportunity to better yourself.
REPETITION IS THE MOTHER OF SKILL
So you've heard this advice before, you should still listen again. Many brilliant memory techniques are available today, but repetition is still one of the best time-tested ways to retain information. The more times you hear something, the better you will understand it. The better you know something, the more effective you can be when you use it. That is the actual power of using what you know to improve yourself. Perhaps there is something you started but didn't finish. There is no shame in re-learning a skill to get over a hurdle. It may seem counter-intuitive, but sometimes taking a step back is the best way to take the best action forward. Increasing your actionable knowledge is one of the best ways to create progress.
JUST TAKE THE FIRST STEP
If you know something but haven't taken action, you may be missing a critical element that encourages you to progress. You may need to humbly receive the same information until you find the piece of the puzzle that enables you to take action one step at a time. The best way is to take a small step in the right direction. Identify one small action you can take toward your goals. For example, if you are trying to get into shape, set your first goal to show up at the gym three times a week. Or if you have always wanted to start a business, then put a meeting with a business strategist that can provide you with the most manageable first steps. The point is to make your first goal so incredibly easy that there is no way you won't just do it. From there, you can use the momentum to take the next step and the step after.
The moral of the story is, knowing is not doing. Doing is the only thing that will provide you with the desired progress and results. Instead of being angry that, yet again, someone is telling you something you have heard before, try to find that hidden gem of actionable knowledge that will help you take immediate action.
