Time Targets: The Secret To Fulfillment

Anthony Robbins "Rapid Planning Method" Time of Your Life Program

How will you never know what is essential to you if you do not have defined goals? How fulfilled are you when you complete even the most minor action pushing you closer to your goals? Stress presents itself in the form of urgency regardless of importance. Pressure will destroy your fulfillment. The secret of satisfaction is effortless: spend most of your time doing what you find the most important but not urgent to your goals. The way to tap into the power of fulfillment is to realize you have two choices to make about every action item on your plate; is it essential? and is it urgent? If you spend your time on action items that are not important and not urgent, you probably don't feel pleased but not unhappy enough to change; this is the dimension of distraction. Spending your time on action items that are urgent but not important will keep you in a state of unnecessary stress with no real progress; this is the dimension of delusion. You will always find yourself spending at least some time on action items that are urgent and important such as emergencies, but the goal is to limit this time by working on important things before they become urgent; this is the dimension of demand. Finally, your goal should be to spend most of your time in the zone, working on action items that are very important but not urgent because they are the source of fulfillment and progress.

After identifying those critical and not urgent things, what will you do if there is too much to do? First, you must uncover what you are the best at and what gives you the most emotional juice to keep going. Those are the action items that you will want to complete yourself. Perhaps everything else can be outsourced to people and systems that would meet them better than you can. This is an area where you must tap into your creativity and resilience. Finding the right people and building systems for outsourcing your action items requires commitment and optimism. If you don't have the money, what do you have of value to offer? Tapping into the power of leverage is the only way to live a completely fulfilled life of doing only what is most important to you.

Now your world will expand and thus create a new problem. You will now have a more significant number of things outside of your control. Nothing else in the world will waste more time, energy, happiness, or wealth than trying to control something you just can't. It is dangerous to confuse control with influence. It's possible that you can influence people's actions and beliefs, but the only thing you can ever control is yourself and your emotional response. It's important to remember that you will be managing people and resources that work on your less critical action items.

As an entrepreneur, you probably have already realized there is just far too much that needs to get done, and you will stress yourself out trying to do everything yourself. You will be successful by focusing on your talents and managing other people and resources. Every successful company started as an idea without help, just someone with abundant resourcefulness.

Make the time to prioritize your to-do list by labeling them as essential or not important and urgent or not urgent. Make another list of the things outside your control or influence, and use it as a reminder not to waste time. Set a new standard for your life of working on those things that matter most to you. Once you set your goals, don't waste time taking the first steps toward achievement.
