Web Hosting

The first thing you need to purchase is your web hosting; The only two platforms I personally recommend are Bluehost and GoDaddy. GoDaddy is the platform I have the most experience with and have purchased for my companies. You can start your website with a little as $6.99 per month up to $30.00 per month depending on the features your website needs. Remember when growing a business you need to be able to maintain your current business and be prepared for growth. You don't want to lose momentum or credibility with a website crash or a lack of expected features. Let us help you pick the right plan for you. There are other web hosting providers, but I believe GoDaddy is one of the best because:

  • GoDaddy makes it simple to create a WordPress Website
  • The GoDaddy support team is excellent and they will help with WordPress issues as well! Last time I needed help I spoke to an actual person who helped me through it and followed up.
  • You get a FREE domain name with the purchase of an annual plan.
  • You would appear more professional on a self-hosted site.

Click here to start the process and if you have any questions along the way please feel free to email at [email protected].

Start your WordPress Website

Register your FREE domain name to get started with your WordPress website. There are other providers to get a domain from but it is easier to do everything in one place. Your main domain name should be your company name or an abbreviation if your company name is too long. You can use landing pages and additional domains to drive traffic to your website. Next, install WordPress on your GoDaddy account. They will guide us through setting up your WordPress website. Choose any theme for now because I will go over how to design your website next. At this point, I recommend watching the tutorials on the basics such as creating and editing a page or a blog post, how to find and install plug-ins, and how to edit the appearance of your website's through its theme options. This is a good reason to have the GoDaddy support team by your side because they are happy to walk you through the whole process. If you have additional questions feel free to email me at [email protected].

Create the design and content of your website

A theme is the layout of your website. Before you decide on a WordPress theme, I would find a couple company's similar to yours with websites that produce results and fit your company's identity. Use these websites to give you an idea of what you want your business website to look like. WordPress has hundreds of themes to choose from and you will easily find one that fits your needs. Some of the WordPress themes are completely free but most themes will have a free version with limited features and a premium that unlocks all of its features. With the WordPress Premium or business plan, you can switch to any premium theme at no additional cost.  It would be cheaper to choose a free theme or free version on a paid theme but I recommend purchasing a premium theme for the following reasons:

  • You want your website to be unique. Most WordPress users have free themes so they are usually overused.
  • The premium features usually include plugins you need to operate your business such as e-commerce, memberships, subscriptions, email marketing, and more.
  • Full access to premium theme support, forums with the author themselves, and customization tips.
  • It makes it more possible to find the exact theme you are looking for.

Remember you can change your theme at any time so don't get too hung up when searching for a theme. It is best to create an online presence for your business and then growing it as you go along with feedback from your continued knowledge and your clients. As always you can email me at [email protected] with any questions.

Conclusion

If you need to create a website for your business I recommend purchasing your domain and web hosting through GoDaddy then your website from WordPress. GoDaddy not only makes the process very easy but has a great support team to help you along every step. The WordPress platform is perfect for a business owner because they have easy to apply and edit themes, mobile-friendly sites, effective support, and tons of built-in features that help you grow your business.

What do you think? Are there any questions I didn't answer about GoDaddy or WordPress? Where did you purchase your domain and web hosting? What is your experience with WordPress?
